Walter Bruce Willis was born March 19, 1955 in the city of Idar-Oberstein (West Germany) to Marlene Kassel and David Andrew Willis (from Carneys Point New Jersey), both of whom resided on a United States military base. The family relocated to America shortly following his birth. He was raised in Penns Grove (New Jersey) where his mother worked as an employee at a bank, while his father was an electrician as well as a worker in the factory. Willis developed an interest in drama during high school, and was "discovered" when he was working at a café in New York City and then participated in a couple of off-Broadway productions. In one bar, he was seen by an acting director who liked his style and wanted bartenders for a minor film role. Willis was involved in numerous auditions, before landing the role in the romantic comedy of the same name, Moonlighting (1985), as David Addison. His humorous and wisecracking P.I.
